I have wavy/curly hair and I feel I look better with my hair straightened than in their natural pattern. If I plan to straighten them out twice a week, what should I use to avoid heat damage to my hair? All suggestions appreciated.I have only recently started straightening my hair and have heard a lot abt heat damage due to using hot irons.

i straighten my hair at least once every 2 days. your hair is going to require a lot of TLC.

make sure to use products meant to protect your hair from the heat, there are many out on the market right now

There is a special heat activated shampoo that will help keep the damage very little! You can get this at like target.

use a heat activated styling producta(i use biosilk) and then go over the section of hair only once. people normally go over the same piece of hair over and over. just do it once. if the hair doesn't get straight after the first time then use smaller pieces.

it depends what kind of straightener you use. for instance, if you have a ceramic one, you dont have to worry about heat damage. otherwise, you have to wait until your hair is completely dry for you to start straightening (NOT DAMP, DRY!) that mistake can cause you some hair. there are very effective conditioners that help against dry hair for instance, herbal essences:

these products are specifically designed so that your hair will be in top condition before you straighten it. i recommend the whole line of products from "Dangerously Straight"

if you're not interested in that, you should just get a better straightener that has ceramic plates. the ceramic plates are worth your while because they reduce heat damage to your hair and actually leave it shiny after you straighten it.

here is a link to some great straighteners:

hope you make the right choice! good luck!

ALWAYS use a deep conditioner every week. And use moisturizing shampoos. And every time before you straighten ALWAYS use a leave in conditioner to protect your hair from heat damage.
