Are all hair straighteners (AKA flatirons) created equal?

I need some help. I'd like to buy my first hair straightener and am not sure what to look for. I'd prefer to spend less than $100 - I have heard they are expensive. What brand is good? I have heard of Chi and Vidal Sassoon, but am not sure what I should be looking for. I am only planning on using it twice a week at the most, to avoid damage. Should I get ceramic or titanium? Any ideas? I am not sure what this all means!

no. the more expensive ones are (rightly) better. the Chi is really the best. ceramic is also alot better for your hair. the chi also has a lot of other products (i.e. the chi serum) that help protect your hair. they are very good and worth the money (i know they're very expensive and will probably put a dent in your wallet). in my experience, they also do the least damage.

the one that should be avoided, well that definitely be the remington wet 2 straight. it FRYED my hair and frizzed it up. not to mention ironing (i dont care what the box says) your hair while wet is a BAD idea and should NEVER be done!

no. chi is by far the best though. my hair dresser says thats all she uses and all of the other ones will break and wont work properly

ceramic. the BEST is MAXIGLIDE!!!! get it at linens n things or bed bath beyond.

ceramic.. because if you dont use as much as twice it doesnt cause alot of heat damage to hair

all i know is that my hair straightener is ceramic, and it works great! the brand is revlon, and it only costed about $20. i love it!

CHI is the best! i have an ultra CHI since about a year and it still works perfect!

MAXI GLIDE IS THE BEST IRON! it uses stream so your is soft and has mouisture. its the best iron that wont break hair

u could buy a corioliss its really nice and thin and ceramic its around $119.00 but they have sales all the time just stay away from conair straightners
